How to Use Metin2 Mob Drop Editor

  1. Select the drop file tab you want to edit: mob_drop_item, common_drop_item, etc_drop_item, special_item_group, or drop_item_group.
  2. Upload the file or paste its content to load the existing groups.
  3. Set the reference Player Level and Mob Level at the top — these are used for the live drop probability preview.
  4. Expand any group to see its items. Click "Add Item" to add a new drop, or click the trash icon to remove one.
  5. Edit the item VNUM, count, and PCT min/max values. The real drop % updates live as you type.
  6. When done, click "Export" on the active tab to download the file in its original format, ready to replace the file on your server.

About Metin2 Mob Drop Editor

The Metin2 Mob Drop Editor brings all five Metin2 drop configuration files into a single unified interface, with a live probability preview powered by the same formula as the Drop Table Calculator. Instead of manually editing multiple text files and cross-referencing VNUMs, you manage all drop content in one place.

The five drop files: Metin2 uses five separate files to control loot: mob_drop_item.txt (per-mob drops on kill), common_drop_item.txt (shared drops for all mobs in a level range), etc_drop_item.txt (drops linked via mob_proto.drop_item field), special_item_group.txt (chest and box contents), and drop_item_group.txt (per-mob drop groups for stones). Each has a different format and syntax. Keeping them consistent manually is tedious and error-prone.

Live probability preview: Every item row shows the calculated real drop percentage (using the Drop Table Calculator formula) at the currently configured player and mob level. When you change a PCT value, the probability updates immediately. You can see at a glance if a rare item is dropping too often, or if a progression item will never drop at the intended farming level.

Group-based editing: For mob_drop_item.txt, items are organized into their group blocks. You can add items to a group, remove items, change PCT ranges, and add or remove entire groups. The editor handles all formatting so the exported file matches exactly what the Metin2 server expects.

Special Item Groups: The chest/box editor shows each item pool with its weight and the calculated probability percentage of receiving each item when the chest is opened. Total weight is always displayed so you can balance pool distributions visually.

Common Use Cases

Adding new item drops to existing mobs without manually editing multiple text files
Balancing drop rates across many mobs simultaneously using live probability preview
Setting up chest/box contents for new in-game boxes with correct probability weighting
Migrating drop configurations between server versions with different file formats
Reviewing all drops for a mob in one view (combining mob_drop_item, etc_drop_item, and common_drop_item)
Creating level-appropriate common drops for new level zones

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between mob_drop_item.txt and common_drop_item.txt?

mob_drop_item.txt defines drops for specific mobs by their VNUM. common_drop_item.txt defines drops that apply to ALL mobs within a given level range, regardless of type. Common drops are typically used for universal low-value loot (Yang bags, common crafting materials) that should drop from any same-level mob.

What is etc_drop_item.txt used for?

etc_drop_item.txt works together with the drop_item field in mob_proto. When a mob has a non-zero drop_item vnum set, the server looks in etc_drop_item.txt for an entry with that vnum to determine the drop probability. This system is used for unique mob-specific drops that should be configured separately from the main mob_drop_item.txt groups.

How does special_item_group.txt work for chests?

When a player opens a chest item, the server picks one item from the special_item_group with matching vnum. Each entry in the group has a weight (not a percentage). The probability of receiving a specific item is that item's weight divided by the total weight of all items in the group. The editor shows this calculated percentage alongside each weight value.

Can multiple items drop from the same mob kill?

Yes. Unlike RPG loot tables that pick one item from a pool, Metin2 rolls independently for each item in a group. A single mob kill can drop zero, one, or many items simultaneously, with each item's drop chance calculated independently based on its PCT values and the level modifier.

What is kill_drop in mob_drop_item.txt?

kill_drop is a yang scaling value used by some server versions to scale yang drops based on a threshold. It is not a drop rate multiplier for items. Most private servers leave it at its default value (1000) and it rarely needs editing.
